Services Planned For Former Magistrate


Josephine Hannon Vernon Anderson, of Travelers Rest, wife of Virgil Anderson passed away on Friday, January 21, 2022 after a period of declining health. Born in Greenville, South Carolina, August 4, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Inez Pittman Hannon and John Heyward Hannon. She was a member of Travelers Rest First Baptist for 72 years (since 1949). Josephine was a Judge in the Magistrate's office in Travelers Rest for eight and one half years, until she retired. She had fond memories of the rewarding experience helping others. Many of whom thanked her personally or wrote and thanked her later. "Aunt Jo" as she was known by her nieces and nephews will especially be remembered by her nieces from Texas that spent many weeks with her in the summers. She opened her home and heart to them with an unsurpassed love and generosity. All will cherish their special memories. Her impact on family and friends cannot be measured. Jo loved the Lord, her church and her family. She always had a joke or a political comment about current events. She was predeceased by her beloved first husband of 45 years, Ernest Coan Vernon Sr. She then, much to the delight of family and friends married and enjoyed almost 20 years of marriage to Virgil Anderson. In addition to her husband, Virgil, she is survived by her loving family including daughter, Deborah Vernon White (Edwin) of Travelers Rest; sons, Ernest Coan Vernon Jr.(Elizabeth) of Peachtree City, Georgia; and Heyward Hannon Vernon of Greenville; four grandchildren she adored, Neil (Ali) White of Mobile, Alabama and their four children; Meredith (Chris) Barnett of Springfield, Virginia and their three children; Jordyn Pritchard (Aled) of Charleston and their three children; and Brittany Holloman (Matt)of Anderson and her two children. She is also survived by Virgil's three loving daughters, Jean Jones (Mark) of Powdersville, and their daughter; Pamela Waters (Ronald) Charlotte, NC and their two children; Kim Turner (Timothy), Ocala, Florida; and their three children. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews who loved their “Aunt Jo”. She was predeceased by three brothers, Ralph Hannon (her twin), Jack Hannon, Gerald Hannon and her sister Bobbi McDonald. Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 4, 2022, at 2pm in The Howze Mortuary Chapel, 6714 State Park Rd. Travelers Rest, SC. The family will receive friends Friday, February 4, 2022, from 1pm until 2pm at The Howze Mortuary. Followed by burial in Mountain View (formerly Grandview Memorial Gardens) The family requests that masks be worn. The service will be livestreamed at www.facebook.com/thehowzemortuary In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to be made to Travelers Rest First Baptist Church, 20 McElhaney Road, Travelers Rest, SC.
