Pedestrian Killed In Marietta

A person has died after an SUV fatally struck them Saturday evening (January 2nd) in the northern Greenville County community of Marietta.

According to South Carolina Highway Patrol, the crash happened just after 8:30 p.m. along US-276 in Marietta. A report later released by troopers said it happened near the intersection with Guest Street, and that the pedestrian was walking north on Geer Highway trying to cross the highway when a 2005 Chevrolet Suburban struck him.

Greenville County coroner Jeff Fowler confirms they were summoned to the scene and confirmed the death. The victim has been identified as 68-year-old James William Pruitt of Marietta.

In an unrelated matter, earlier in the day, shortly after 4 pm, a young lady was seen walking in the roadway, weaving in and out of traffic and talking to herself at that same location and was almost struck by several vehicles.
