Former TR Police Chief Harold Perry Dies At Age 66

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Robert Harold Perry, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and

dedicated public servant, who departed this life on August 12, 2026, at the age of 66, surrounded by his family at his home.

Born on June 27, 1960, in Travelers Rest, South Carolina, Harold was a son of the late David Americus Perry and Betty Jean Perry Sesti. Harold lived a life marked by unwavering dedication to his family and community.

Harold was a steadfast law enforcement officer, cherishing his entire career in service to others. After graduating from Travelers Rest High School, he enlisted in the United States Army, proudly serving as a military police officer. Following his military service, he became the longest-serving Chief of Police in Travelers Rest, where he made a profound impact on the lives of countless individuals before dedicating many years to the Greenville County Sheriff's Office. His strong moral compass and unyielding commitment to justice left a lasting legacy in the region.

He was a dedicated Mason with the Cooper Lodge in Travelers Rest. Harold was known for his sharp wit, sense of humor, and candid reflections. He embodied resilience and determination, notably overcoming the loss of his leg in September 2024. Faced with a seemingly insurmountable challenge, he defied expectations by learning to walk again, showcasing an indomitable spirit that inspired all who knew him.

He loved animals, especially his late beloved Jack Russell Terrier, Max, who brought him much joy and companionship. Beyond his professional achievements, Harold's greatest pride and joy came from his family.

His memory will forever be cherished in the hearts of his devoted wife of 21 years, Arlene Perry; two loving daughters, Jessica Perry Smith and husband, AJ, and Miranda Clark and husband, James; four precious grandchildren, Cory Knapp, Cameron Clark, Zachary Clark, and Bella Smith; and a brother, Kevin Perry.

As well as his parents, Robert is preceded in death by, his stepfather, John Angelo Sesti.A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at Praise Cathedral Church of God. A private burial will be in Jackson Grove Methodist Church Cemetery.
