Girl Scouts Donate Cookies To Heroes And Organizations That Serve

Greenville, SC—Throughout August, girls with Girl Scouts of South Carolina-Mountains to Midlands donated Girl Scout Cookies to firefighters, hospitals, emergency responders, non-profits, and frontline workers.

COVID-19 had an impact on Girl Scout Cookie season like we’ve never seen. The pandemic stopped girls from selling cookies in-person while learning the valuable lessons that every purchase powers. When cookie booths abruptly ended in mid-March, the virtual Cookie Care campaign launched and we worked to recognize our hometown heroes on the front lines during the pandemic by donating cookies. While many Girl Scouts were able to participate in the Girl Scout Cookie virtual program and made donations, while staying safe, there was still an abundance of inventory.

In addition to donations made by Girl Scout troops, Girl Scout Cookies that remained at council service centers were donated to non-profits for the people they serve. Some recipients included; The Salvation Army of the Midlands, Palmetto Children and Youth Services, Homeless No More, Harvest Home Food Bank, Meals on Wheels, Project Host, and Transitions Homeless Shelter. Donated Cookies were picked up from all three of our service centers in Greenville, Spartanburg, and Columbia.

In total, 56,028 boxes of cookies, that is 4,669 cases, were donated by Girl Scouts in the upstate and midlands.

“While it is heartbreaking that COVID hurt our girls’ cookie sales which help power their Girl Scout annual experience, we are honored and proud to donate the Girl Scout Cookies that were not sold, to our council hometown hero’s and nonprofits support and serve our communities throughout the upstate and midlands of South Carolina,” said Girl Scouts of South Carolina-Mountains to Midlands CEO Lora Tucker. “It is a very small way to say thank you and that we appreciate you.”

Giving back is always in season at Girl Scouts. Proof that Girl Scouts harness a spirit of goodwill that leads for meaningful ways to contribute to their community throughout life.
