TR Hosts Riverside In Season Opener

The 2023 high school football season gets underway this Friday night as the Travelers Rest Devildogs host the Riverside Warriors in a non-region battle.

Riverside ran the score up on the Devildogs last season 66-21 in West Greer and handed TR's head coach the first loss of his coaching career. TR's returning players from 2022 want to erase that game from their memory while Riverside wants to repeat the feat. TR went on to post a 4-7 record last year and managed to make the AAA playoffs. Key players to the blue and gold Devildogs are Drew McKibben (wide receiver), Gavin Baker (wide receiver), Carter Buchanan (running back), Bryson Durham (defensive end), Lucas Tankersley (linebacker), Oliver Rowland (linebacker), Jordan Rice (corner back), Brody Pitman (line backer), Ace Evett (corner back), Ji Wiggins (corner back) and Parker Peace (kicker). TR quarterbacks are Colby Epps and Chase Thompson. TR will be young on offense and experienced on defense. Riverside will be led by Georgia Tech bound line backer Marcus Downs.

Elsewhere, Blue Ridge goes to Chesnee, Carolina travels to Liberty, and Broome goes to Powdersville as all Region 3 AAA teams play on the road this week with TR being the only Region 3 member playing at home.
