TR Football Coach Resigns
Travelers Rest High School's head football coach, Ray Gould has resigned after serving eight seasons. Gould told WSPA-TV news he plans to enter private business.
Gould led the Travelers Rest Devildogs to 32 wins and 47 losses along with visits to the state playoffs in 2020, 2019, 2018 and 2015. Travelers Rest lost in all of those first round playoff games.
In 2019 Gould was selected to the South Carolina Upper State AAAA Palmetto Champions All Star Coach of the Year by the South Carolina Football Coaches Association. He led Travelers Rest to 8 wins and 3 losses in 2019.
Gould came to Travelers Rest in 2014 and replaced Rob Searfoss as head coach. Searfoss had suddenly resigned before the eighth game of the 2013 ten game season. Gould had previously coached high school football in his home state of Florida.
In his last season at Travelers Rest, the Devildogs went 4-5 overall and 1-3 in Region 1-AAAA and finished fifth due to a loss to Pickens and missed the playoffs. One non-region game was canceled in 2021 due to Covid and was never rescheduled. A brief review of Gould's year by year records at TR follows:
2021 - 4 wins 5 losses overall and 1-3 in Region 1 AAAA. TR ended the season with two straight losses.
2020 - Covid interrupted the season and football was suspended in Greenville County for several weeks. When play resumed, went on to compile a 3-3 season, finished second in Region 1 AAAA but lost in the first round of the playoffs to A.C Flora 41-0.
2019 - 8 wins 3 losses overall and 3-2 in region play. TR lost in the first round of the state playoffs to Ridge View 33-14.
2018 - 7 wins 4 losses overall and 2-3 in region play. TR lost in the first round of the state playoffs to Ridge View 76-0.
2017 - 1 win 9 losses overall and 0-4 in region. Finished 5th in region and out of the playoffs.
2016 - 2 wins 8 losses overall and 0-4 in region. Finished 5th in region and out of the playoffs.
2015 - 6 wins 5 losses overall and 3-4 in region. Lost to Greer in first round of state playoffs 45-13.

The school has announced the vacancy and a search for Gould's replacement is underway.
