TR Advances To Upper State AAA Title Game

Travelers Rest High School's varsity men's basketball team advanced to the Upper State AAA championship game by way of the Devildogs' 51-46 victory over Clinton on Monday night. The win over Clinton came on the road and was TR's third AAA playoff victory. TR is now two wins away from taking the 2022-23 state AAA basketball championship.

TR center Drew McGibben scored eight of his game high 22 points in the fourth quarter Monday night to hold off the home standing Clinton Red Devils. Clinton was the Region 4 AAA champ while TR won the Region 3 AAA title during the regular season.

In the final three minutes of the game McGibben scored back to back layupsz to give TR a 42-38 lead and the Devildogs held on for the win. TR held a 26-22 lead at halftime and the score was tied at 34-34 at the end of the third quarter.

Travelers Rest will take on the Wren Hurricane on Saturday at Bob Jones University. The winner of the game will advance to face the Lower State AAA champ for the state AAA championship. Travelers Rest has won three state basketball championships during the school's history but the most recent came in the early 1960s.
