TR Advances To State AAAA Playoffs, First Round Games Begin Thursday At 7 PM

The Travelers Rest High School varsity boys' basketball squad secured the co-championship of Region 1 AAAA by way of a 48-44 victory over Easley's Greenwave in the regular season finale for both teams at Joe Small Gymnasium.

By way of the victory, which avenged an earlier loss to Easley, the Devildogs will play at home on Thursday in the first round of the playoffs.

This season the top four teams from Region 1 AAAA will be pitted against the top four squads from Region 2 AAAA in the first round games. TR's first round opponent will probably be Greenwood but that status is unofficial due to Region 2 does not end the regular season until Monday night. Currently Greenville holds first place in that region and will host fourth place Greenwood on Monday, February 14th.

Region 1 AAAA's top four teams are Travelers Rest, Easley, Westside and Walhalla. The top four in Region 2 AAAA appear to be Greenville, Eastside, Laurens and Greenwood.

February 17th first round AAAA games: Indian Land at Irmo, Westside at (probably Eastside); (Probably Greenwod) at Travelers Rest; Westsood at Lancaster; Dreher at South Pointe; (Probably Laurens) at Easley; Walhalla at (Probably Greenville).

Should Travelers Rest win it's first round game, they will advance to the second round against the winner of the Westwood vs Lancaster game.

Travelers Rest completed the regular season with seven straight victories, according to MaxPreps and the Devildogs are undefeated inside the friendly confines of Joe Small Gymnasium winning all ten of their home contests.
