Man Killed In Main Street Crash
A 48 year old Greenville man died Monday morning in a downtown Travelers Rest, single vehicle crash. The wreck happened at 12:26 A.M at the intersection of Main Street and Center Street. Michael Brosia, 48 of Greenville died at the scene.
Authorities said Brosic was driving a 2008 Honda Fit recklessly when the vehicle went off the right side of the road. The vehicle struck a utility box, a light pole and a tree.
A Greenville County Deputy Sheriff tried to stop the vehicle approximately fifteen minutes earlier due to a license plate not matching the vehicle.
Lt. Ryan Flood, public information officer for the Greenville County Sheriff's Office said the driver refused to stop and the deputy canceled the attempt and turned around.
"This was not a pursuit, the driver never sped away from the deputy but refused to pull over," Flood said.
Travelers Rest police chief, Ben Ford told WYFF-TV4 news a TRPD patrol officer saw the vehicle enter the city limits at a high rate of speed. The officer tried to turn around to initiate a traffic stop but by the time the officer turned around, the crash had happened.
