Lady Devildogs Advance To Upper State AAAA Championship Game

FEBRUARY 25 - Travelers Rest's Lady Devildog basketball team has become the surprise threat to win the state AAAA championship! After finishing second in Region 1-AAAA, the team has knocked off two powerhouse teams and are contending for the UpperState title and a berth in the state championship game.


On Wednesday night TR traveled to Rock Hill and stunned South Pointe 50-39. That victory places TR in the UpperState title game against Region 1-AAAA champ Westside on Saturday.


EARLIER - Travelers Rest's Lady Devildog basketball team stunned Westwood in the first round of the state AAAA championship tournament in Blythwood on Saturday afternoon. Westwood had entered the game with an undefeated home court record and had pounded their February opponents with huge scores (Feberuary 2nd Westwood 74-20; February 5th Westwood 39 Richland Northeast 4; February 12 Westwood 80 Lugoff-Elgin 18). TR took the Red Hawks 59-53 and advanced to the second round while Westwood's season came to a sudden end.



TR took a 16-7 lead after the first quarter and held a 27-22 lead at the half. TR outscored th


eir hosts 32-31 in the second half to hang on for the 6 point victory. Scoring totals for Travelers Rest were not submitted to MaxPreps by TR staff.


The win places TR in the second round at South Pointe on February 24th. Other first round results had Westside downing Irmo 48-38, Greenville downed Catawba Ridge 73-35 and South Pointe tripped Greer 55-52. Travelers Rest, with a win over South Pointe will advance to the Upper State AAAA championship game on February 27th. The Lady Devildogs battled to a second place finish in Region 1-AAAA.
