Devildogs Breeze To First Round Victory

The Travelers Rest Devildogs breezed to a first round victory over Greenwood in the state AAAA playoffs on Thursday 67-33.

"They gave us trouble all over the floor," Greenwood head coach Kelcey Stevens told the Greenwood Index-Journal after the game. "We knew they had solid guards that could make shots and they just hit us in the mouth."

TR opened the game with a 14-0 run and never looked back. The front court duo of Jacob Brown and Jackson Duncan, who are 6'5" and 6'7" respectively gave Greenwood fits. Brown, Duncan and Drew McKibben combined for more than half of Travelers Rest's offense with McKibben leading the way scoring a game high 22 points.

TR defenders jammed the paint and forced Greenwood to take tough shots. The Greenwood Eagles shot 13 of 37 from the floor.

"Travelers Rest did things we haven't seen all year," Stevens said. "They are very athletic and play out on the perimeter very well. We tip our hats to them. It wasn't the night we wanted."

TR advances to the second round against Lancaster at Joe Small Gymnasium on Saturday night.
