Devildogs Ranked 7th In State AAAA

The Travelers Rest Devildogs (11-3 overall) are ranked 7th in the latest South Carolina Basketball Coaches' Association AAAA top ten poll. The recent rankings were released on January 9th.

On Tuesday night Travelers Rest mauled Eastside 80-68 in the Region 2 AAAA opener at Joe Small Gymnasium. Eastside opened with a 5-0 run but Travelers Rest responded with an 11-0 run of their own and went on to an eventual 26-14 lead after one quarter of play. TR led 51-46 at the half and Eastside never recovered.

The win lifted TR to 11-3 overall and 1-0 in region play. The Devildogs are now 4-1 at home, 2-2 away and 5-0 on neutral courts.

During the Christmas break the Devildogs won the the North Henderson Christmas Tournament with wins over Tuscola (74-35), Erwin (65-42) and North Henderson (75-65).

The standings in Region II AAAA, after Tuesday night's games show Greenville on top with an overall record of 12-2 and 1-0 in the region. Travelers Rest is second at 11-3 overall and 1-0 in the region. Blue Ridge is third with an overall record of 6-10 and 1-0 in the region. Next comes Greer (1-12 overall and 0-1), Berea (5-12 overall and 0-1), and Eastside (4-11 overall and 0-1).

January 8th results from region openers had Blue Ridge upsetting Berea 71-68, Greenville escaped Greer 55-39, and Travelers Rest defeated Eastside 80-68.

Region 2 AAAA teams return to action on Friday January 11 with Eastside going to Berea; Greenville travels to upset minded Blue Ridge; and Greer visits Travelers Rest. In a lone Saturday January 12th game Greenville plays outside the region and visits Class 1A Christ Church.
