TR 41-Landrum 7
The big daily newspaper in Greenville failed to provide coverage of Travelers Rest's 41-7 romp over Landrum. So, here we go.
After watching TR's Xavier "Zay" Terry score yet another touchdown Friday night, Landrum head coach Jason Farmer shook his head and looked at the ground.
"Sheesh," Farmer said. "Its like he is Herschel Walker."
Terry put on a future Heisman Trophy winning performance .. He rushed for 189 yards, scored five touchdowns (four before hallftime) on just 17 carries. He also had a 52 yard pass reception to set up a touchdown.
Terry scored his final touchdown of the night in the third quarter before leaving the game.
Terry had only four yards on three of his six carries in the third quarter after scoring a fifth touchdown on an 18 yard run.
"Maybe he got tired," Farmer said.
TR's defense limited Landrum to only five first downs in the entire game. The Cardinals avoided the shutout in the final two minutes when Anthony Anderson scored on a 56 yard run.
"We had been trying to get the ball to Anderson all night and he finally busted one," Farmer said.
Farmer said the 41-7 loss was embarrassing. Farmer had a 2-0 record against TR football teams entering Friday night. Actually the victory was the first for a Travelers Rest football team since 1959 when Chico Bolin's Devildogs downed the Cardinals 33-24. The two schools didn't play each other again until 2010 when Landrum won 36-9 in Landrum. In 2011 Landrum downed TR 28-14 and in 2014 the Cardinals won 19-14.
TR has this Friday night off before taking a road trip to Powdersville. If TR takes that win, the Devildogs will be 3-0 heading into Peach Blossom AAA Region play against Chapman.
