Indecent Exposure At TR Wal-Mart

An Upstate teacher was arrested Sunday at the Travelers Rest Walmart and charged with exposing himself to two women, inside the store, according to a police report. The report from the Travelers Rest Police Department said John Joseph Gulius, 46, of Greenville, was arrested Sunday morning at the Walmart on Benton Drive, the incident report said.

John Gulius (pictured above) faces two counts of obscene exposure after incidents at a Walmart store, police said. The arresting officer said Gulius was arrested in the store parking lot after he briefly tried to drive away, but officers were able to stop him after he turned onto Highway 25. Officers said Gulius told them he was "scared and that's why he exited so quickly and that he 'may have' exposed himself inside the store."

Gulius was taken back into the store where he was positively identified by the two women, the report said.

"Gulius even apologized to one of the victims, a Walmart employee," the report said.

Police said Gulius exposed himself to at least two women in two different areas of the store.

When asked why he did it, police said in the report that Gulius replied: "Just thought I'd kind of be flirty."

Police said Gulius told them he is a special education teacher for Pickens County.

The school district released this statement about the arrest of Gulius:

"The School District of Pickens County was made aware by the Travelers Rest Police Department of the arrest of an employee on Sunday, June 5, 2022. We can confirm the employee has served as a teacher at East End Elementary. The District cannot provide detailed comments related to personnel matters, but can confirm that the teacher has not worked since May 27, 2022. Given the seriousness of the allegations involved, he has been placed on administrative leave, where he will remain, until an investigation has been completed."

Police said both incidents in the store involving Gulius were recorded on Walmart security cameras, and police were wearing body cameras during their interactions with him
